Having formed way back in 1957, the Dorset Football League was set up to increase the standard of football and competition throughout Dorset and its neighbouring counties. Their old website was struggling to keep up with the demands of the league, and they contact Bespoke with the idea of creating a one-stop-shop for players, staff and fans alike. The new site needed to be visually engaging, informative and up to date all season long.
With the challenge of achieving that vision, our design team attempted to combine a visually impressive layout with all the latest information on the league. The homepage highlights the league standings, upcoming fixtures and latest news from the league whilst maintaining a clear and modern design. Using the homepage as the portal to all other pages on the site, our team created a simple menu system to sit alongside a more detailed sidebar, providing easier navigation for users. The most popular pages on the site have always included the league table and top scorer details, therefore we included this information as ‘widgets’ in the layout of the site down the right hand side of the homepage, allowing this information to be quickly updated and displayed throughout the season. The target for the league was not to sell a product, just to build a fan base for the league that returned for updates on a regular basis.
The site was originally built back in 2012, but has stood the test of time so far. Since its relaunch, the league has seen a massive increase in returning visitors, which is brilliant news as this was one of their targets before the site went live. Without sales or enquiries to track, the success of this site has been measured using the increase in organic traffic and search engine ranking over the last few years, increasing awareness and popularity of the league.
