A key way of ensuring that you succeed in any New Year’s resolution is to set yourself achievable targets and remember that real change takes time to occur. You would be deluding yourself to assume that you’d be super fit after just a few days of exercise and, similarly, it can take time for your online marketing efforts to receive recognition and spark progress.

Don’t let yourself become disheartened when you don’t notice immediate effects and instead follow these guidelines for building a basic marketing strategy:

Define where your business is and where you want it to go

Before you start creating a marketing plan, you need to comprehend where your business currently stands, and once you’ve done that, you need to set yourself some clear objectives for where you want it to go next. Essentially, make sure that these objectives are realistic, or you’ll be disappointed later, remember, change takes time.

Strategise and create tactics to achieve your goals

Having objectives is all well and good, but if you have no idea of how to make them happen then you’re going to struggle! Think about how your business is going to achieve its goals and the marketing methods and tactics you’ll use that you think will get you there.

Put your strategy into action and measure results

Finally, you need to put your marketing strategy and tactics into action. It’s very important that you measure and monitor the effects of your strategy, otherwise you’ll have no way of quantifiably knowing if your tactics have been successful in moving you towards your goals! If your recorded data shows that a tactic isn’t working, then you know that it will need a review and updating.

By setting yourself smaller, more manageable goals to achieve throughout the year you are more likely to achieve them and fulfil your more long-term goals!
